By-laws of the EUDN

Preamble:

The purpose of this association is to make European development expertise available both to the development policy community and to researchers in other regions and to strengthen cooperation among researchers within Europe. It is part of the Global Development Network (GDN), and specifically fosters cooperation among the individual and regional network partners of GDN with development researchers in Europe.


Article 1:
Name and legal status

The name of this association shall be the European Development Research Network, hereafter abbreviated EUDN. EUDN will only become a separate legal entity if necessary.


Article 2: Objectives

Article 3: Member(ship)

Membership refers to individuals and not institutes. New members are elected by current EUDN members, on the basis of a list of persons nominated by at least three members.


Article 4: Organization of the association

The Executive Committee (EC) of the EUDN consists of a Chair, and a minimum of three other members. This group is elected in a confidential election process for a four year term by the members of EUDN. EUDN shall try to meet at least once a year, preferably piggy-backed to international conferences. Th chair is chosen by the EC members

The Chair shall preside over all meetings of the Executive Committee, act as official spokesperson for EUDN, and perform duties like scheduling of annual meetings, appointing working committees, holding elections, etc. The Vice-Chairs shall support and/or represent the Chair in case of absence of the chair. The Secretary Treasurer shall be the financial representative of EUDN being responsible for the overall allocation of funds subject to the annual review and approval of the Executive Committee, and the monitoring of funds, etc. The Treasurer shall prepare an annual budget, and present it to the Executive Committee.

The EUDN Secretariat shall be responsible for the day-to-day management like sending communications and announcements to the EUDN members, administering EUDN activities, fundraising in support of its members, and developing and updating the EUDN webpage. The current Secretariat is established at CRED (Center for research in the Economics of Development), University of Namur (Belgium).
